I call this image “Evening Chores”. This image was taken in the Northern Mountains of Vietnam very close to SaPa. It seems a farmers work is never done. As I explored the mountain roads during the falling light of the early evening I was caught off-guard by this scene. Wet and weary, both the farmer and the water buffalo put in the last hour of work. For me, this image tells a story of how Earth, Man and Animal can and should continue to work together, seeking balance. Putting in the long hard hours may be a pathway to a future we deserve.

The Northern Mountains of Vietnam are truly a sight to behold. One minute the rain is coming down with such force, it can hurt your exposed skin. The next minute the clouds part to expose this as your view. Over many years these near-vertical hillsides have been painstakingly molded into a landscape that now offers a pathway to food. Water carries nutrients from the top to the bottom. This is the season of preparing and tilling the paddies. I find these images telling a story work and preparation. The many colors of dirt and muddy water show a distinct network of pathways from high to low, needing steady and thoughtful attention for the entire system to work as a whole.

My three months in Guatemala took me to many remote communities. Watching these baby birds grow, and ultimately fly away was a real treat. New life brings new possibilities, and to watch that in real-time is something special. Watch the video (Here) of these babies growing in their nest.

Morning light upon Lake Atitlan never fails to delight. Lake Atitlan, Guatemala is a place where things run at a slower pace. Living on the lake you may find it common to be invited to watch the Sunrise or Sunset with a group. In a lot of ways, it’s a place to reconnect with nature. It all started with light.

Bangkok is one of my favorite places. Standing by the river in Bangkok a security guard came over to me and tapped me on the shoulder. He pointed to my camera and then reached elbow deep into a fountain. He pulled out this frog and placed it ever so gently onto the lilypad. We spoke no words, just stood there, drinking in the beauty of nature.

I took this picture in Koh Kong, the night before I rode into the Cardamom Jungle in Cambodia. The day I arrived in Cambodia I knew the Jungle was my sole destination. My new challenge was meeting anyone who knew anything about navigating through it. Days passed as I travelled closer and closer until I reached Koh Kong, nestled at the edge of “normal”. That night I met a man who introduced me to a local guide named Nick. He gave me some basic directions, which I scribbled in my notebook and I was off. Needess to say, I fell in love with the Jungle and the small communitites who call that place home.

Silver Lake is located in the Olympic National Forest and accessed by hiking trails near Port Townsend. I like this photo because it screams, “Show UP!” Washington winter hikes can be cold, wet and miserable. This hike started no different. The entire hike was like walking through the clouds. Visibility was pea soup. We didn’t even know we had arrived at the lake until we were meters from getting wet. To our delight, nature saw fit to burn off the clouds right before we turned back to the car. In this case, showing up at the lake won the day.

Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. The area is famous for a carbonate mineral left by the flowing of thermal spring water. It is located in Turkey's Inner Aegean region, in the River Menderes valley, which has a temperate climate for most of the year.

Originally, I was drawn to this scene due to the contrast in colors. Upon revisiting the image many months later, I see a much different story. It tells me one of Hope. A story of doing our best in the face of personal challenges and striving to become the very best we can. This may mean doing many things which take us out of our comfort zone and place us in scenarios of enhanced responsibility. Testing ourselves honestly remains a proven way towards growth. Without taking some amount of risk, we can never achieve our own personal next-level version.
